You may be wondering what the difference is between the AST view in PMD and Eclispe 3.1.1 with the AST View plugin. Turns out that there is quite a difference!

AST View of a sample MIDlet

Notice that to verify the correct methods in this MIDlet that you will be walking the tree or subtree under types where SUPERCLASS of javax.microedition.midlet.MIDlet is found. It seems better in understanding how to walk this tree by XPath PMD rules than what I found in the PMD AST view of the rule designer.
