Sun today unveiled its open source desktop 'Java Desktop System', previously coded-named as Project 'Mad Hatter'. Aimed point blank at Microsoft's Desktop Windows series, the Sun Java Desktop System includes fully integrated desktop environment with familiar desktop look and feel, office productivity (StarOffice 7), Mail/Calendaring client, Web Browser, instant messaging, and other productivity applications based on open source components and standards. Of course, the power and security of Linux/Unix system is implicit.
