According to this Yahoo.com financial article, Motorola has taken the other step to move towards Linux on its handsets by offering to sell its stake in Symbian. While bad for Symbian this is certainly good for embedded linux and java.

Motorola has committed to both Linux and Java due to costs and speed of development with embeddded linux often outpacing Symbian in changes.
