Looks like the guys at Apache are at it again. After a j2ee container now they are attacking j2se. They plan to build a complete open source version of the JVM based on j2se standard.

Anyway I am not convinced what this would achieve. It may be that they can deliver a JVM which can be bundled with Linux distros but I don't think they can innovate and make Java better. They have to conform to the j2se standards anyway.
