I just got tripped up with a shell script that triggered a remote URL via wget.  It was passing in various parameters on the URI, for example:

wget http://127.0.0.1/?a=b&c=d&e=f

But this was causing processes to be spawned and anything after the first value pair was getting interpreted by the shell.  To fix, escape the ampersands:

wget http://127.0.0.1/?a=b\&c=d\&e=f
