The sun has set on a San Francisco after a very busy day at the Open Source Business Conference here in the Westin just off Union Square.  The day started very early as we drove into the city and set up the booth.  At SpikeSource we have just released our initial public offering and this was the show we were doing it at.  I was flying under the radar somewhat with my official badge reading from LinuxWorld.  Although in all fairness I was in actually working both angles; with a number of stories filed for LinuxWorld including the video highlights of Mr Schwartz's keynote.  I believe LinuxWorld will have that online pretty soon.

For a high-tech show the internet access was very poor.  There was wireless but it wasn't enough capacity to cope with the number of people trying to get on.  I had managed to get some connection to file some stories but I had to upload a 160MB video file for the chaps back at SYS-CON to do some editing.  I gave up eventually and thought, I'll do it from my room in the Westin to which the front desk promised me high-speed access.  Having now plugged for over an hour, I can't get anything faster than 20Kb both in and out.  Some high-speed access and all this for an extra $14.95!  My previous hotel suffered from the same 'over-selling' of their internet access as well; I am doomed not to get high speed internet on the move.

I met up with Simon Phipps who is all a glow after Sun's recent announcement regarding Open Solaris.  I also caught up with Bob Bickel from JBoss who was still very excited to be working with Marc and his crew.  OSBC is a two day show so tomorrow is the last day with a keynote from the CEO of MySQL.
