Sun Microsystems[tm] has posted the performance benchmarks of J2SE 5.0 (on Windows, Solaris and RedHat) and found it to be far exceeding the benchmarks of J2SE 1.4.2.

J2SE 1.5 is found to be faster in startup, having lesser footprint and better optimized.
