maybe it is a two-layer problem: we could use some personal online app that we can trust ourselves. and the only way to do that is an open-source webserver/proxy that is running on a (maybe virtualized) machine in the cloud. like a personal server that we can configure by ourselves. it would be like a virtual person... like a mixture of 2nd life, openid, personal webserver, webmailer, online harddisk, proxy, personal ebay-server, etc... i think you get the idea...
other servers then trust this server and not the person behind it...
we could have our own filtering lists, but could also use the lists of other people, like we already do with AdBlockPlus... the trust problem would be solved when we dont trust the person behind the virtual person, but the virtual person herself.
Maybe Google could do its searches only at our personal list of links. (ie: Our Firefox browser periodically tells Google the ranking of most-visited links, and Google uses this list as the priority set to do searches).
