What's the point of Jini? How about a resilient massive multiplayer online gaming framework that always seems to be available!

This is the second of my two 7th Jini Community Meeting Presentations.

The presentation covers some lessons learned while building a MMPOG for my previous employer and a few thoughts where I would like to expand on it for my own venture.

I think Jini is particularly well suited for multi-player mobile gaming platforms. Check out www.kayakinteractive.com for someone else who feels the same way.

On small devices where performance is bad, no matter what, it's ok. There are some pretty cool Java-based cell phone games out there.

I didn't mean the JVM, I meant the language. What languages are used for most game development these days?

Still C/C++ and Assembly plus a scattering of platform specific languages.
Python and Java are creeping into the industry mainly as scripting languages.

Remember that old habbits die hard. Java is mainstream only in those areas that only really took off AFTER Java was launched, game programming is 15+ years older than that.
