java.security.AccessControlException on Macintosh Posted: May 9, 2002 11:34 PM

I get a java.security.AccessControlException if I try to view an applet(a very simple Hello world applet) over the web. The Tumbling Duke applet from Sun cannot be viewed either. I can view the applet from Windows 2000 PCs and I am having this problem only on the Mac. I can view an applet locally stored on the Mac. Using the Apple Applet Viewer I can view the applets stored locally or over the internet. I am using Mac OS X 10.0.3 and Internet Explorer 5.1 Preview Release. Any idea as to what settings I need to make?
Thanks,
Priya

I don't have a Mac, but my <i>guess</i> would be that you have your IE security settings to <b>highest</b> (or whatever nomenclature they use for that setting). You could either set your security level to something more permissive, or leave it at the highest level and customize the handling of applets in particular -- that is, enabling them, under the security settings. I don't know if the menus are in the same places for the Mac, but on IE for Windows, these settings would be found under <b>Tools/Internet Options.../Security/Custom Level..."</b>.

If this doesn't help, buy me a new Itanium and I'll be happy to figure out the exact details for you shortly after it arrives on my doorstep! :-)

Whoops, how embarrassing, I used the angle brackets instead of square brackets! And I had the unmitigated hubris to brazenly post without previewing. That'll teach me. I guess that's what comes of fooling with a bit of html before posting. Here is a more aesthetically pleasing presentation for your discerning discrimination:
