can any one is familiar with SWT if so then help me understand them.from where can i found necessary information on them

All you got is that poor javadoc and some examples at:
http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/%7Echeckout%7E/platform-swt-home/dev.html.
After this, you can register to the swt mailing list and hope that your application will be so small that you will not run in any problems!!!! Good luck !
By the way, what decided you to use SWT?
