According to java.com this is what you are trying to install:

3: What will I get when I download Java software?

The Java Runtime Environment or JRE is what you get when you download Java software. The JRE consists of the Java Virtual Machine, Java platform core classes, and supporting Java libraries. The JRE is the runtime portion of Java Software, which is all you need to run Java in your Web browser.

When you download the Java software, you only get what you need - no spyware, and no viruses. When you download the Sun Java Plug-in, you are getting the most up-to-date Java software, which lets you take full advantage of today's most interactive and exciting applications in the digital sphere.

So if you are trying to download the IDK 2.0 I would suggest you go to http://www.members.shaw.ca/FlyYaSoftware/download.htm

Otherwise, if you are wanting to install the JRE I would just go straight to the source and go to http://java.sun.com/ and decide which download you want.

Sun's website is full of great information about the java platform.

Of course if you decide to install the SDK from Sun I would recommend uninstalling what you installed already.

If nothing else it may be some kind of a glitch from the download being corrupted, which can sometimes happen and by reinstalling the program maybe it will fix itself.

Hope this helps!

SDK is everything rolled into one package so it contains the JVM(java virtual machine), JREE(Java Runtime Enviroment), and the librarys needed to use java. How old is your computer? You may be having problems running the java browser game because you don't have your browser configured appropriately. On your browser go to tools, internet options, advanced, check to see if you have both Sun's java(should hava a pic of java cup) and if so make sure that the box is checked(it will say need to restart puter to make this active) also go down to MS VM(if you are running MS(microsoft) make sure that java enabled and compiler both checked.

I am not sure what IDK is I just looked it up on Google cause you said that is what you were wanting to install. It appears to be a freeware/shareware program to download things to embedded systems such as your cell phone, pda's, and maybe even calculators.

As for me giving out my IM account name, I don't do that because I am a full time student/mom and don't have a lot of spare time chatting and being interrupted.

I am only replying to this forum because it helps me to be a better programmer and I learn lots of interesting stuff.

I hope this helps

Also I would suggest you download the SDK 1.41 from suns website that is where I have gotten all my downloads for java and I know that the download won't get corrupted. I am not familiar enough with java.com to say they are a reliable source, however since Sun is the one who brought about the java movement I trust everything on their site.

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html This is the link to Sun's download page choose the second one in the first set of boxes if you are running Windows. Or if you are running Linux or Solaris choose one of the downloads that has download SDK. Just make sure you download the SDK. and not the JRE.
