Does anyone have experience running 2 instances of tomcat, I need to do this and i was wondering if it was possible and if so what if any problems am i likely to encouter

I'm Running Windows server 2003

Yes. Just use/refer to different ports - for the connection as well as shutdown and ajp as well. I have 3 on one machine. See the port definition in the <Connector> element in your server.xml.

If I can just add that a small reverse proxy, correctly configured in front of it all & they will all be seen as one machine ...
