Applet filter won't work Posted: Sep 29, 2005 1:23 PM

I am trying to use an database applet called "Database Applet 5.0" that I got from cnet.com to access a text file. The problem is that the filter on the applet doesn't work, yet it works fine for the e-business applet that is identical to it (Easy Shop Applet 5.0). I have no clue how to fix the filter, but I need it to work for the site I am designing. (I don't want to use the Easy Shop one because I am not selling anything.)

To see the applet go to this page scroll down a little till you see the search result "Database Applet 5.0" If you want to see the working filter on the "Easy Shop Applet 5.0" look at the next selection on the search list.

I would email the creator, but the site (javazine.net) is no longer there, and his email bounces back to me as undeliverable.

Thanks,
Sharon

Suggestion:

Run it in a Browser that has a Java Console, e.g. download firefox from
Mozilla and the appropriate Java Plugins. From there, when you fire
or try to fire up your applet, if it rejects, click on Tools, then
open up the Java Console and paste the errors back on this forum.

It is probably most likely that its laborious to connect an Applet
to a Database (it has to link through a Servlet) - but I've never
used those applications you are talking of and do not know what
architecture they use to connect to whatever database it is connecting
to (I'm assuming it connects to a database).

Good luck,
Spike
