Interactivity

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could direct me to infrormation (or recommend a book about) classes which allow interactivity over the internet so I can start on an interactive internet game...

The idea is to have a limitless amount of players with saved accounts that can log in to their "personas" (who will have some alterable statistics assigned to them) then chat and\or battle with others. There will be no graphics, at least in the first version.

There is enough books on the Java & Networking, though ... but before re-inventing the wheel (or hot water, you may gice a look on the Sourceforge)

I read an interesting article a while back about using Jini to do just such a thing. I think Bill Venners sent me the link to article, or it was in the Cool Stuff (http://www.artima.com/forums/forum.jsp?forum=32) forum. I'll check my email and post the url for the article if I can find it...
