Will there be a reduced price for those who bought the First Edition recently?

No is an expected and acceptable answer. Just curious before I pull the trigger.

Is there an upgrade to the second edition pre-print PDF? I'd like to do it now, if possible!

We're going to create a coupon for people who bought the first edition directly through Artima, yes. People who did that will get an email with info on how to "upgrade."

Has this happened already? Just asking because I just discovered my old email address in the account had been out of service for a while, so I would not have received anything in the past months.

I purchased the Programming in Scala PDF on December 6th. Only eight days later (December 14th) I got the email notifying me of a 20% discount on the second edition.

Frankly, I hoped for a free upgrade since I purchased the book so recently and it was in electronic format. I completely understand that a printed book costs money to manufacture and ship. But PDF files don't incur the same overhead.

Software vendors often provide free upgrades when a new release is imminent. So there's definitely a precedent for that kind of thing.

Anyway, on behalf of myself and others like me who purchased just days before the 2nd edition, please consider providing the electronic version for free.

I apologize for posting this publicly. I would rather have raised my concerns through private correspondence.

I bought the 2nd edition on the 20th of November at full price and also bought the 1st one earlier this year. Was not aware of the coupon as I didn't receive any e-mail. For some reason I also didn't get a notification that ProgInScala2EdPrePrint.pdf had been updated.
